Dinnington Brass Band
Sounds of a small town heard in
The city of steel

Rain in the Crossing
Perfect weather for fishing
Still no coelacanth

Alas, Words with Friends
My record of high scores has
Been thoroughly jounced

The joint has been cased
With care I prepare to rob
The Brass Embassy

I love brass band music. Little Brother Faroon used to play in the City of Leeds Youth Brass Band - soprano cornet. Such a powerful sound. Black Dykes, Grimethorpe, Yorkshire Electricity Band... Awesome.

All those Yorkshire accents. Makes me feel homesick, even.

It did quite shock me when they quoted the statistic that for every £1000 that opera gets in public subsidy, brass band music gets just £1 ...

We very much enjoyed the Dinnington programme. I too was shocked at that funding statistic. Brass is such a community thing - I can well imagine there are many towns like Dinnington that have lost their brass heritage by not having a dedicated family like the ladies we saw on telly. Or Sue Perkins - wasn't she enthusiastic?
