We lived in a two-up, two-down terraced house on Grove Road, opposite the school. I was not quite two and a half years old, and it was the middle of a late autumn night. I'm not sure if I was fully awake or not, but I remember my dad coming into my room and saying something like "Come and see".

He took me into my parents' room. My mum was in bed, propped up on pillows, and in a crib by the window was a new baby.

"Say hello" said my mum, and I carefully put the teddy bear I was carrying in the crib next to my brother.
