Get your kicks on Route 52
May. 27th, 2007 01:19 pmOne of the strange and wonderful things about the internet is the way that you can get to know somebody online long before you get to meet them in real life. However, you don't usually meet somebody for the first time on their wedding day ...
It was a slightly surreal experience to get on a bus, heading not quite to Crookes, but at least in the general direction and disembark at the oddly rambling Rutland hotel which seemed to have more staircases pointing in different directions and odd little rooms in unexpected place than Hogwarts school. We found a room with a typical wedding disco in progress, and to our relief we spotted various men in full highland dress, one of whom turned out to be the groom himself, the utterly charming
thebustocrookes. He led us downstairs to an cosy little bar to meet
mrs_sean_bean and her husband mr mrs_sean_bean. I should point out at this point that busto wasn't trying to hide his various livejournal friends in the furthest corner of the hotel, and anyone who says he was is lying!
We headed upstairs at some point for a fabulous pie and pea supper, and were joined by
shullie,
loops, the fabulous
juno_februa complete with feather boa and partner
jettblackuk for more drinks and scandalous gossip. When we were all sufficiently drunk^W relaxed we braved the wedding disco for a good old fashioned bop. The dj skated close to the wind at some points when he put a line dancing record on and completely cleared the dance floor, but he redeemed the situation very quickly by playing The Proclaimers instead. Good fun all round.
So, congratulations and best wishes for a long and happy marriage to Doug and Caroline aka Mr and Mrs
