... so they say. However, faced with a meeting room full of confused OAPs, single mothers, assorted dancers, actors and church folk I thin I would have preferred 40 inches of cold steel to the HB pencil that I was actually equipped with. It was the AGM of the Darnall & District Community Association who are in charge of running the hall where we meet to fence once a week, and things needed to be sorted out.

The most important issue was the shortfall of £6,000 in the annual finances, which is not a healthy state of affairs when there is only £18,000 left in the kitty. However, the meeting went round and round in circles with pointless debates about the payphone in the hall, the problems with the heating, the state of the dance floor and ethnic diversity. It fell to the heroic Dave to force a proposal to the vote to have a modest one pound increase in membership fees and session fees, which was still too much for some of the older members. Amber nobly volunteered for the committee, and I've been co-opted as well, so I stopped behind for the committee meeting that followed the AGM. Fortunately, it's not too much of a commitment - it's only one meeting every two months at the moment, but at least we have a bit of a say in what goes on now, and perhaps we can find out about things like possible grants for historical societies like what we are.

There were only two real points of interest in the committee meeting - namely that bookings should go in the book on the notice board which should avoid the problem we had last year with a double booked children's party, and that nobody was really sure who to contact in case of an emergency in the hall apart from the caretaker who may or may not be on duty. Oh, and the Christmas panto is on from the 25th of November to the 1st of December which shouldn't clash with our December workshop. They still managed to drag the meeting out for nearly three quarters of an hour though ...

In other news, some men with worried expressions and clip boards have been to stare and tut at the large flood at the end of our garden, so we might see something done about it. Alicia had her RE exam this afternoon, and the first question was to define what an atheist is, so I don't think she will have had too many problems with that one ... :-)

Right, time to skedaddle to hit people with sticks for two hours ... hurrah!

As soon as I saw RE exam my emidtae thought was "What! They're doing Resident Evil exams now? Why couldn't I had those at School?!" Sadly, Reading on brought me back to reality ~sulks~.

I've got a copy of Animal crossing in the Post curtosy of my work place, Hurrah!

Oooh, let me know your friend code for Animal Crossings and we'll arrange a visit sometime. I've got all of the different fruits, and you should be able to get all the tools you need from my Nooks. What furniture sets are you interested in?

Having never played on Animal Crossing -I've mostly decided to buy it on your recommendation, and the fact that its one of the best selling DS games to date- my response to those questions has to be:

"eh?"

Lol.

I'm sure once I get it I'll know exactly what you're talking about, and 'Thermalsatsuma Independant Traders', will be my first port of call for all of my Animal Crossing needs lol.

It will all make sense when you start playing, and realise you've got to work for Tom Nook to pay your mortgage off ... :-) Planting a decent size orchard of non native fruit is the best way to make money - you can sell each bit of fruit for 500 bells a go (compared to 100 for the fruit you start with).

I was relieved the two of you were there or I'd have felt like a hard-nosed bitch dragging the meeting back on track! It was amazing watching GBS's dictum on committees being reversed by the assorted 'not used to how committees do business' kind of folks. Sterling work there and here's hoping we can, as a section of the Community Association, find ways forward to save the facilities in the longer term :-)

Just one teensy thing though (and I probably don't really have to point it out as I'm sure you've done time on committees before), finances and committee meeting points should really stay confidential in future. I have yet to find out what we can and can't say to the other group members. I'll get the gen from himself's aunt on that score, as she's Treasurer.

If you let me know which bits are confidential I'll edit them out. I thought the stuff at the AGM was all public knowledge anyway? I agree that committee stuff related to the SSS would be better on the yahoo group anyway, if only to spare anyone not concerned from mind numbing stuff about booking books and caretakers!

The next meeting is on the 11th of July, and the treasurer would like to see banking reports at each meeting. Presumably this just means numbers attending each session and current memberships, but you can always ask her when you next see her.

"only if it's a very sharp pen, and a very small sword" (apologies to Terry Pratchett for nicking his line).
