I like driving on days like these.

Wind the climate control down to 16 degrees. Stick a good driving compilation on the cd player and head out on the highway, looking for adventure and whatever comes my way. Which to be perfectly honest usually means a queue of traffic on the M5/M6 link and holdups through the M1 widening road works, but that's the difference between driving across Merkinshireland on a Harley and doing the work commute in a company car.

The steady stream of support calls and emails for the expense systems is starting to tail off although I expect another rush just before the deadline for this month's payment run. Most calls have been things that should have been answered if people had read the email that they were sent several weeks ago, but I'm used to that by now. Still, it keeps me busy.

I'm about to start investigating all of the fun things I can install on my Topfield PVR. There are alternate programme guides, smart searches for automatically recording things, mp3 jukeboxes and even games if I had a temporary mental siezure and decided that I wanted to play sudoku on the TV.

Does it do like a tivo, where you can just say "Always record Dr Who Confidential and anything with Bradley Whitford in it"? I have to say that it's great having to press a couple of buttons and then never needing to worry when a programme is on ever again.

Yes, there are extensions to do that, and also ways to link it with Digiguide on the pc too. I think I need to do a bit of research to see what it can do so I can see what I want it to do, but what attracted me to the Topfield over the other choices is the extensibility and flexibility. Having two tuners means you can record two things at the same time and watch something else you've already recorded, or even the start of programme that is currently being recorded. Being able to record and pause radio is very handy too - the quality is much better than listen again.

Oddly, I tend not to bother recording the radio. If I miss things, I can usually download them. The two tuners would be nice though. Recording 2 digi channels is the only thing I can't do unless I buy another set top box and hook it up to the VCR.
