Apparently Robert Fripp is recording the sounds for Microsoft's new Vista operating system. You can watch a video of the recording session here. It is a largeish download but well worth it for some tantalising snippits of hauntingly beautiful music. I don't know about the OS, but I wouldn't mind a copy of the soundtrack album ...

TBH the OS looks like they started by taking the code for XP and pushing all the version numbers up to 6. It will operate happily with Windows 5 (XP) drivers, and it's the first Windows to be 'backwards compatible' with the drivers from a preceeding version. (9x is Windows 4)

There's heaps of extra toys in the Control Panel, but if you like Windows the way it is, you'll probably just spend five times longer than you did with XP trying to switch off all the pretty graphical features & disabling the services which do stuff you just have no use for.
